Determining the optimal discharge port size of an impact crusher requires comprehensive consideration of multiple factors. The following are the key points in the determination process:

1.Consider material characteristics

Hardness: For materials with higher hardness, such as quartz stone, granite, etc., in order to achieve a better crushing effect, the discharge port size should not be too small, otherwise impact crusher load will be too large, wear will be aggravated, and blockage may occur. For materials with lower hardness, such as limestone, shale, etc., the discharge port size can be appropriately reduced to obtain a finer product particle size.

Humidity: Materials with higher humidity have poor fluidity and are easy to adhere to the inside of the crusher and the discharge port, affecting the discharge effect. Therefore, when handling materials with high humidity, the discharge port size should be appropriately increased to prevent material blockage and ensure the continuity of production.

Viscosity: Materials with high viscosity are also prone to poor discharge, and the discharge port size needs to be increased accordingly. For example, some materials containing clay components are easy to stick together during the crushing process, and a larger discharge port helps the material to be discharged smoothly.

2.Reference to production requirements

Product size requirements: This is the most direct factor in determining the size of the discharge port. If the production requires a finer product, such as fine aggregate for concrete production, the size of the discharge port needs to be adjusted to a smaller size; if the product size requirement is coarser, such as gravel for road base paving, the size of the discharge port can be appropriately increased.

Production requirements: Generally speaking, the larger the discharge port size, the faster the material passes through the crusher, the higher the output, but the product size will be relatively coarse. If you want to obtain a finer product size while ensuring a certain output, you need to balance and optimize the discharge port size and other operating parameters (such as rotor speed, feeding speed, etc.).

3.Based on equipment performance

Models and specifications: The adjustable range and optimal application range of the discharge port size of impact crushers of different models and specifications are different. Large crushers usually have a larger discharge port size adjustment range and can handle larger outputs and coarser material sizes; small crushers are more suitable for handling fine-grained materials, and their discharge port sizes are relatively small.

Rotor speed: The rotor speed and the discharge port size affect each other. A higher rotor speed can make the material obtain greater impact energy, which is conducive to crushing finer particles. At this time, a smaller discharge port size can be used; while a lower rotor speed requires a larger discharge port size to ensure the smooth discharge of the material.

4.Through testing and adjustment

No-load test: During the equipment installation and commissioning stage, a no-load test is first carried out to observe the operation of the crusher under different discharge port sizes, including equipment vibration, noise, motor current and other parameters. If the discharge port size is too small, it may cause problems such as increased equipment vibration and excessive motor current; and if the discharge port size is too large, although the equipment runs relatively easily, it may not achieve the expected crushing effect.

Load test: After the no-load test is normal, a load test is carried out. At different discharge port sizes, a certain amount of material is added to the crusher to observe the crushing effect and product particle size distribution. The particle size of the product can be analyzed by screening tests and other methods, and the discharge port size can be adjusted according to the analysis results.

Continuous optimization: In the actual production process, the discharge opening size is continuously optimized according to the production situation and product quality requirements. As the equipment runs and the components wear, the discharge opening size may change, and regular inspection and adjustment are required to ensure that the equipment is always in the best operating condition.

By following these steps and considering the material properties, desired product size distribution, and testing different discharge port sizes, you can determine the optimal discharge port size of an impact crusher. Regular monitoring and adjustments will help you maintain optimal performance and product quality in your crushing operations.
